PERSEPHONE _ variations on a fall
PERSEPHONE _ variations on a fall
PERSEPHONE _ variations on a fall arises from the encounter between the myth of Persephone and the Andante con moto from Franz Schubert’s String Quartet in D minor Death and the Maiden.
As in the myth, in Schubert’s theme death is not an end but a passage: a threshold that consumes youth and returns consciousness. Autumn becomes the central image of this crossing: a liminal season, a time of falling and metamorphosis.
On stage, the nine dancers cross the boundary, becoming at once maiden and death, individuality and collective figure that regenerates itself through contact with the other.
PERSEPHONE _ variations on a fall invites us to linger on the threshold: where the end becomes a beginning, where the fall becomes metamorphosis, and where dying beauty opens the space for return.
